What is 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants, so we thought we would highlight some of the bright and innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30 by a wink. Behold, our 2012 30under30 Honourable Mentions! More.

Ebony Centazzo, VIC (b. 1983)

Name: Ebony Centazzo
Age: 29 (Born: March 1983)
Gender: Female
State: VIC
Known for: Cat Napping Suburban Retreat

If you’re a frequent traveller who is also a concerned cat owner, Ebony Centazzo’s retreat is as good as a hotel… for your feline companions, that is.

Cat Napping Suburban Retreat opened last year, in a 300-square-metre warehouse in Southwest Melbourne replete with beds, toys and scratching posts for each individual guest, with a playpen, fish tank, and outdoor viewing to spare.

Centazzo says she started Cat Napping with next-to-nil sense of how to run a business and find clients.

“I had no idea if it was going to flop or fly,” she recalls; indeed, she was exasperated after it took her over a year to secure a warehouse.

Yet after taking advantage of local media coverage and devising a discount pricing plan for extended stays, Cat Na

pping took off. Centazzo averages 25 furry visitors a night, and is working on several side businesses she hopes to integrate. “My clients are amazed at how calm and chilled out their cats are when they come to take them home,” she says.

Sound fun? Then get thee to the cattery!

Anthill asks: Ebony Centazzo, what motivates you as an entrepreneur?

To be successful, to be acknowledged for what I do and of course the rise of my bank account! I also like to challenge myself and prove people wrong. My biggest motivation was showing my friends and family that I could run this business and run it well.
