What is 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative that was launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. Each year, we invite our readers to nominate young Australian entrepreneurs deserving of recognition for their outstanding entrepreneurial endeavours. More.

Betty Boustani, NSW (b. 1981)

Name: Betty Boustani
Age: 29 (Born: September 1981)
Gender: Female
State: NSW

Betty Boustani was only 26 when she started her law firm. It’s hard to imagine an Australian lawyer being any younger and holding that distinction.

Initially, the firm dealt predominantly in commercial and property law. Over time, Boustani realised she was leaning toward advising corporate clients. She signed up for a course in the discipline, then worked it formally into Emprise Legal & Corporate Advisory.

“It works perfectly, as legal and corporate advisory are hand-in-hand services,” she says. The shift to corporate work allowed the firm to move into the entertainment industry. Emprise is currently working to raise up to $2 million to stage what Boustani says will be a major entertainment event.

Boustani says she’s been dreaming up ways to make money since age 9, when she created a fun fair and charged mom and dad to play the games. She says starting a law firm at such a young age was “a risk that is beyond most people’s comfort zone. I haven’t looked back since.”

Reputation and word of mouth, along with a website and Facebook page, serve as Emprise’s marketing tools. Boustani says her entrepreneurial fires are stoked by a desire to “have enough money to allow me to stop worrying about where the next dollar is coming from so I can have headspace to expand the business further, create more wealth and share that with my family and friends and ultimately help others to do the same thing.”
