You can market research anything, including song lyrics [VIDEO]

4

When the organisers of Red Nose Day in New Zealand realised they didn’t have a charity song for 2012, who did they call? Eventually, the organising committee chose New Zealand’s fourth most popular folk parody duo, Flight of the Conchords.

This duo have had to remove the ‘almost award winning’ from their mantle, as the awards have been coming thick and fast, both as a team, and as individuals. Bret McKenzie (the one with the beard) won an Oscar for his original song “Man or Muppet” from the Muppet Movie.

Tasked with the mission to create a song for sick kids, Bret and Jemaine talk to some children to see what they’re into. They get lyrics, an economics theory and some inside information about what it’s like to be a sick kid.

This brilliant video, and the resulting song (it went to No. 1 on the NZ charts immediately) shows that a good song writer, or entrepreneur, can make something out of anything that is learned in market research.
