This innovation initially came to life when…

I was travelling around Australia quite a bit for work, and I found it incredibly difficult to acquire local knowledge about what was on. It was easy enough to understand which really large events were on, but difficult to know what was on at a local level, and where I could find event information, it was relatively limited. The more I spoke with other people about this issue, the more I understood that this was a common problem that people experienced.

WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

Jedo helps people find, share and host local events. With Jedo you can be a local, wherever you are.

It does this by…

Jedo delivers an Australia-wide free events-sharing platform that leverages social media, mobile and mapping services to deliver a highly interactive and media-rich event listing service. Jedo works together with services that are already an established part of daily web life. We also integrate with ticketing systems so that people can immediately transact.

PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

There’s a wealth of information on the Internet about events, but there is no comprehensive, content- and media-rich event listing service. Current event listing services do not support user ratings and reviews, deep integration with social media, or provide a mobile service that lets people find events near to a street level location.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Increases the reach and effectiveness of an event’s marketing campaign; provides integration with more than 350 social media platforms; delivers user ratings and reviews about events; provides direct integration with event ticketing systems so users can buy tickets.

COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

In the past, local newspapers would contain this sort of event information, as would traditional events directory sites. Neither these sites, or local newspapers, contain media-rich event listings (do not support photo or video sharing), and neither do they support user ratings and reviews. Their event listing information is rather limited, and does not provide integration with social media platforms.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

Citysearch, MeetUp, Around You, various other geographic-specific or topic-specific sites, Facebook (Facebook Business Pages are used to promote events, but events cannot be easily found by geography or topic).

TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Jedo can provide a valuable service for every Australian. It is anticipated that the service would deliver greater value to metropolitan residents aged 15-55, and people who are newly relocated to an area, tourists, and people who have experienced significant life changes (e.g. married, had a baby, got a divorce). Individuals who already have a social media account (9 million Australians) are most likely to be early adopters of the service. The market size is in the millions while the service is in Australia, and the product has global potential.

DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY

It is available for sale through…

The web application and mobile (optimised for mobile; the application is in development).

Listings are optimised for Google and are published via our media partners. Fairfax Community News will trial the distribution of content across their print and online publications.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Online and print marketing campaigns targeting early adopters for users. Social media campaigns across Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Social Media Campaign includes agreements with four of Australia’s most popular bloggers.

Sales and marketing activities are focused on material contracts and market leaders across event organisers, media partnerships and entertainment verticals.

Public Relations activities for event organisers and users.
