Start-up hub and co-working community, River City Labs, recently opened applications to be part of Queensland’s most high profile start-up investment event, RiverPitch.
Seven investment-ready startups from all over Australia have until Friday 25 September to apply here and potentially receive the opportunity to pitch to a room full of early-stage investors.
Sponsored by Morgans, the bi-yearly event is transforming how investment meet-ups are conducted in Brisbane, bringing together Queensland’s venture capital community and Australia’s most promising tech startups in an informal, social setting.
What is RiverPitch all about?
General Manager of River City Labs, Peta Ellis, commented: “Our main goal in hosting an event like RiverPitch is to help facilitate a mutually beneficial relationship between leading investors and Australia’s up and coming tech start-ups.”
“We feel confident that the way we reformatted the event in June, to make it an informal, networking occasion, was a positive move for this facilitation process, so we eagerly await the sort of business discussions that are sure to come out of October’s RiverPitch.”
Steve Baxter, RiverPitch start-up investor and founder of River City Labs, added: “I was rather blown away by the sophistication of the pitches at June’s event. It was great experience and exposure for the seven start-ups and from an investor point of view RiverPitch certainly makes our lives easier as we are introduced to pre-screened, guaranteed quality start-ups.”
What do start-ups stand to gain from RiverPitch?
Alumni from previous RiverPitch events include Outbound, a social network for travellers, Obzervr, a mobile environmental monitoring tool for the mining and resources sector and StreetEats, a street food ordering and payment app.
Ryan Hanly, Outbound co-founder, commented: “RiverPitch was an unbelievable event for Outbound. In one afternoon, it gave us access to more local investors than we could have hoped to access in six months, and they were all in the same room.”
“To be given that exposure is an unbelievable leg-up for any business. The experience of pitching in front of 70 odd investors was also incredible on a personal level and the networks we made immediately after the event were substantial to say the least.
“We had a number of follow up meetings and months later we are still being contacted by investors that saw us at the event. Riverpitch is something I would recommend to anyone in the startup scene!”
