1. THE BEGINNING
This innovation initially came to life when…
Coles Supermarkets had a world wide search for a product which would collect supermarket trolleys in a safe and ergonomic way. Supermarket trolleys a traditionally collected manually and caused millions of dollars in injuries to staff every year.
Lockelec Innovation in Melbourne were chosen to design and produce a device which would alleviate injuries.
It invented the Red Rover trolley collector, a remote controlled ‘blue tooth’ battery-powered device, nicknamed the ‘sheep dog’ of supermarket trolley collectors.
2. WHAT & HOW
The purpose of this innovation is to…
…alleviate workplace injuries incurred by the normal manual handling pulling and lifting. With the battery powered motor and ‘blue tooth’ Red Rover, there’s no heavy pulling or lifting, thus dramatically reducing workplace injuries.
It does this by…
…a remote control that allows the Red Rover to collect trolleys without any hands on. The only contact is when there are a number of trolleys in a ‘snake’, at which time the operator simply ‘guides’ the snake from the front.
3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS
This innovation improves on what came before because…
It replaces the need for heavy lifting and pulling of multiples of supermarket trolleys by supermarket trolley ‘jockeys’.
Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…
With manual handling of long lines of trolleys, operators could lose control; customers were injured.
Red Rover is controllable with just two fingers, without any straining from an operator. The great benefit for Coles is the reduction in workplace injuries.
4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE
In the past, this problem was solved by…
Comparable devices invented for motorised trolley collection were cumbersome and unwieldily, though better than manual handling.
The Australian made Red Rover was small and light, yet with a silent (battery) motor, powerful enough to collect and move trolleys. Remote control ‘blue tooth’ ensured smooth, injury- free operation by trolley ‘jockeys’.
5. TARGET MARKET
It is made for…
The supermarkets worldwide. It is currently available in over 100 Coles supermarkets in Australia.
It is available for sale through…
Initially the Red Rover is available through Coles and then will be made available to supermarket and retail operators worldwide through overseas agents.
Our marketing strategy is to…
Get traction through online and offline editorial in trade magazines and general and social media, supported by an active sales/marketing team.
