1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

In 2011, then 21-year-old Genevieve George was taking a break from her degree and embarked on a working holiday in Europe. While traveling, she was told that she wouldn’t be able to commence work for a period of time and so had to find a temporary solution until her circumstances changed.

She realised that more people and businesses should be able to take on work as they need it and have the ability to adjust to suit circumstances that inevitably change. Upon returning to Australia in 2012, Gen developed a WordPress test site incorporating the idea of short term work.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…connect and match jobseekers and employers to casual, part-time and flexible work across a range of industries.

It does this by…

…allowing jobseekers to upload a profile on OneShift containing information such as location, availability, skills, personality traits, education and previous experience. OneShift’s unique algorithm then provides employers only with the candidates that best match their requirements.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

…previously, jobseekers had to do all the hard work by trawling through thousands of job ads. OneShift follows a more “passive job hunting” model where the jobs come to the jobseeker. For employers, OneShift displays matches of only the most suitable candidates to the role which saves a lot of time and money.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

…fast, efficient and affordable way to find employees. For jobseekers, using OneShift is free, for employers, OneShift charges a $30 fee for posting a job ad which then provides instant matches to profiles of suitable candidates.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

…a very slow and expensive recruiting process that often left businesses disappointed with the calibre of candidates provided. Businesses paid high amounts of money to recruiters to trial and error candidates, who while looked good on paper, didn’t suit a businesses’ culture, team or needs in terms of availability.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

…all other job boards, job search sites and recruiters.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

…anyone looking for flexible work. OneShift’s motto is “part-time work, full-time life” so we believe that employers and employees should be able to find work and work according to their lifestyle and circumstances.

It is available for sale through…

…our website au.oneshiftjobs.com

Our marketing strategy is to…

spread the word through PR and social media. We also use word of mouth and have a dedicated call centre that rings up businesses to find out their needs and demands.
