1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation came to life when…

Omny co-founder Long Zheng was frustrated with traditional radio, as he couldn’t get the right combination of shows, music, news and entertainment.

There was always something boring or a segment that he didn’t like. Mobile apps that streamed podcasts or music only offered one type of content, whereas radio always offered a diverse listening experience.

Long decided that it was time for an app that combined the best of both of those worlds, to make radio engaging and interesting all the time.

With co-founders Andrew Armstrong and Edward Hooper, Long created Omny in 2013.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

Give you radio your way. No more bad songs and boring commentary – combine the best of radio, your favourite music, hot podcasts, local weather, email, Facebook updates and more to create your own perfect radio station.

It does this by…

Providing you with an iPhone app that lets you pick the radio shows, podcasts, music, and updates that interest you. Omny’s smart algorithm will then mix your music with the shows and play your own personal radio station to you in easily consumable three to ten minute segments.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

Omny is the only personal radio app on the market – no other iPhone app allows you to combine music and short shows to create your own perfect radio feed.

Many services allow you to stream live radio or play podcasts, but no one has combined them to create personal radio.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

  • Hands free entertainment on the go
  • Stay updated and entertained with audio
  • No more boring radio – it’s only content you want
  • Discover new radio shows and music
  • Listen to many different segments on your commute

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Competitors such as iHeartRadio and Pandora only really provide one service – music or radio streaming. Not even the giant and popular TuneIn offers short, easy to consume content mixed with music and social updates.

While those companies solve the problem of how to get radio on your smartphone, they don’t actually make radio more interesting.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

iHeartRadio and TuneIn allow you to stream radio stations, Pandora and Spotify allow you to listen to music. Stitcher lets you listen to podcasts.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Students, commuting professionals and gym goers.

We want to provide entertainment on the go, so our target market is anyone who’s on the move and has no time to sit down and read.

We also aim to provide service for those who are stuck in boring commutes, and wish to maximise their time sitting still by listening to great music, hearing the news and learning new and exciting information with audio.

It is available for sale through…

Omny is currently available for free in the Australian app store.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Use a combination of poster ads (telephone boxes), social media content marketing, AdWords, Facebook Ads, and a strategic partnership with Southern Cross Austereo.
