1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

After I had an accident (exploding fire extinguisher) which caused me to not be able to work at the same capacity. I had to create guides for my junior staff to do the process work and then just give advice on the elements that really needed a lawyer. We then realised we could teach clients how to manage their own legal and then video in the advice so they would save thousands on legals by doing it themselves but still get the same protection and advice.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…create a public self-service legal platform so everyone can manage their own legal work, while still having the security of legal liability insurance for advice given by recorded video session with a lawyer.

It does this by…

…using smart technology which creates the relevant documents; automation; AI chatbots and easy-to-read guides for the public to manage their own legal work. We then use recorded video software to do the advice calls and stripe to split payments and manage invoicing automatically. This makes the platform self-sufficient to minimise human capital required to run/maintain it and provide paper trails.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

…currently in the market, there are only template companies and law firms. This slots in the middle providing the best parts of both – simplicity in creating documentation; but also specifically drafted and documentation including legal advice. It also bring accountability to both the lawyer and client given the video sessions are recorded and that lawyer’s insurance covers any issues.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Customers that can manage their own legal matters for approximately 10% of the cost but still get legal liability insurance and specific legal advice on their situation and the documents they’ve created. It makes legal work affordable and accessible being online.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

People who couldn’t afford, or just didn’t want to pay, exorbitant legal fees would go to Google to find the document to do themselves or just write their own which would put them in more trouble generally than if they didn’t have an agreement at all. Now they get proper document and advice for not much more than template cost.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Pretty much everyone! Given the platform covers business law, personal law, family law, wills & estates, intellectual property, franchising and a few other key areas, the target market is broad. Only those who have complicated legal issues, or are involved in litigation or mediation where they need a lawyer to attend in person cannot use the platform for that. The target market must have access to a computer or smart phone and the internet.

It is available for sale through…

The website – customers create a free account and legal question bank. Once they choose to create a document or video in a lawyer, they will then put in their credit card details to make that transaction, or to subscribe.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Target the startup crowd first and then the community legal centres. This will allow us to fly under the radar and get bulk users in the system to use as social proof that if it works for that crowd, then those people currently using lawyer for their work can also start using the system as it’s tried and tested.
