What is 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw more outstanding entries than ever before. So, we thought we would highlight some of the bright and innovative nominees who just missed Top 30 by a wink. Behold, our 2011 30under30 Honourable Mentions! More.
Kavita Singh, QLD (b. 1987)
Name: Kavita Singh
Age: 24 (Born: May 1987)
Gender: Female
State: QLD
Kavita Singh has a vision for Brisbane: to make the city a hotspot for fashion, and to make people realise a local scene brimming with creative designers waiting to be discovered. IG’ZIST, the marketing and PR company she started this year, is devoted to building fashion buzz.
“No one in Brisbane is doing what I am, so I just came to the conclusion I needed to do my own thing,” she says.
Seldom intimidated, Singh has a level of confidence that few her age can ever muster. She reinforces her vision through the network of go-to specialists she has built up — photographers, makeup artists, models, technicians, and a team of committed IG’ZIST interns.
“I am best known for creating a platform for Brisbane creatives to get recognition without feeling like they need to go to another major city to get that same respect.”
The typical marketing strategy for a client works like this: build up hype by connecting through social media, radio, print media and blogs, then create events to grab the target markets’ attention, such as launch parties, fashion shows and media and buyer’s nights.
Although IG’ZIST is only months old, Singh has already worked in some key promotional angles to get the word out. A street campaign involved shooting photos of otherwise random passersby in Brisbane’s inner suburbs displaying the company logo on a simple slip of paper, then stringing the photos together to create an irresistibly cool effect, then posting the results to the company blog. Traffic to the site immediately tripled.
Even before launching, Singh was asked to contribute to local flood relief efforts. Besides the opportunity to publicise the company, she says, “People got to experience fashion marketing in a personal and helpful way, giving me a name of contribution towards my city.”
As IG’ZIST strives to highlight what’s fashionable, Singh is establishing herself as a community influencer and a leader — roles that never go out of fashion.
Anthill asks: Kavita Singh, what gives you entrepreneurial cred?
“Sticking to my word and doing what I say is going to be done. Creating a solid network with people in Brisbane that are contributing and are serious about making it an amazing city.”
