1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

LexisNexis identified a need to provide legal professionals with faster, more precise, more insightful legal research. Through customer consultation our most used content set – the High Court – was identified as the best place to start applying analytics technology to legal content.

High Court Analyser works by surfacing insights across four key areas: People & Parties, Outcomes, Words & Phrases and Most Cited. Using this data, customers could, for example, find insights on how a Judge has ruled in previous similar cases or uncover the prior working relationships between opposing counsel.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…make legal research easier, more insightful, and thereby allow users to focus more of their time on the business of law – client relationships, strategy and business development.

It does this by…

…Data mining. Thousands of High Court judgments and providing insights not only on case outcomes, but who was involved, what their relationships are historically, how Judges have ruled on similar cases in the past or how certain terms have been considered. In a heavily network-based industry, historical and interpersonal insight is a key advantage.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

…it allows the users to do what used to take hours or days in a fraction of the time. It takes complex data points and displays them in easy-to-navigate graphic interfaces. Its modular design allows content modules to be added as customers require. It applies technology in a way that few in Australia have.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Deep insights from thousands of pages of legal documents, graphic visualisations of complex data points and customisable reporting. Users can quickly uncover information that would otherwise be very hard to find.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Hours of arduous legal research – typically the domain of junior lawyers which increased headcount for law firms. This meant that human error was common, such as misinterpreting commentary or not identifying key cases. High Court Analyser distils this information (and more) and presents it to users in a readily accessible format.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Legal professionals who are ready to implement the benefits that innovative technology can provide to their practice. It is made for those in the legal industry who see the benefits that analytics is having in the legal research space and are looking to get in on the ground floor. It is made for those who appreciate that the time saved in research can be better spent preparing a robust litigation strategy, handling client concerns or attracting new business.

It is available for sale through…

LexisNexis Relationship Managers.

Our marketing strategy is to…

The benefits of analytics through our website, Relationship Managers, social media, EDMs and customer testimonials.
