Self driving cars have been the stuff of science fiction for decades. Hollywood has helped make that desire stronger with inclusions of such technology in everything from The Fifth Element through to iRobot.
So, there’s been a hankering for this kind of technology to be available sooner rather than later.
Google stepped up to the challenge with its robotics, engineering and mapping boffins.
Right now, there is a very impressive looking video of Google’s Self Drive Cars doing the rounds.
And, by crikey, it looks awesome.
However, there are a few interesting things to note about how far off reality this really is. It’s all well explained in this post from Daring Fireball.
So, while we still don’t have hover boards, it looks like self-driving cars are also quite a long way off. But, maybe it will happen in our lifetime.
