The OzAPP Awards started three years ago to bring innovators, ICT developers and investors together so that they can learn and benefit from each other. The 2014 edition of the OzAPP Awards is now open for entry and applications will close on December 13.
Who is on the judging panel of the 2014 OzAPP Awards?
Bill Tai, Partner at Silicon Valley based Charles River Ventures, will head the international judging panel along with representatives from Samsung, Silicon Valley Bank, Platinum Partners Optus and Bankwest amongst others.
The other judges you should prepare to face include Google Australia’s head of engineering Alan Noble, Samsung’s chief of strategy Young Sohn, managing partner of Silicon Valley Bank Aaron Gershenberg, and Othman Laraki, former vice president of growth for Twitter.
“Applicants will be judged according to what the app offers, the market need for the product and its path to revenue. I am excited to be part of this Curtin University initiative and I look forward to seeing the unique and innovative entries in the competition,” Mr. Tai said.
Tai will be also be part of a road show of keynotes, workshops, networking and mentoring sessions in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Singapore in September.
What is up for grabs at the 2014 OzAPP Awards?
There is over $300,000 worth of prizes up for grabs for the winner and finalists, as well as help in building and launching their app concepts. The winner will get the opportunity to fly to the USA to meet with top Silicon Valley venture capitalists.
Prizes will include over $75,000 cash, data storage space and processing time from iVEC, as well as mentorship and commercialisation advice from Yuuwa Capital.
Finalists will receive Incubator co-working packages at Fishburners (for NSW based finalists), York Butter Factory (for VIC based finalists) and River City Labs (for QLD based finalists). Ninefold are offering $2,000 worth of cloud per month for one year for the winner and $300 worth of cloud per month for one year for the finalists.
Short-listed applicants will have Skype interviews with the judging panel, before five shortlisted app developers are flown to Perth for the final pitch on 16 to 18 February 2014 as part of a West Tech Fest to celebrate innovation in Perth.
