Angelica Nohra is co-owner of Star Beverages and Direct Wine Cellars, a wine importing company that focuses on giving Australian consumers a taste of different cultures from around the world.
Nohra launched the company in 2009, at the age of 21, with business partner and co-owner, Scott Wilson. A self-proclaimed ‘jack of all trades’, Nohra was inspired by her love of Italian wine and years of travelling abroad to fill a gap in the industry.
She left her singing career and life in the United States behind to come back home and pursue a life as an entrepreneur. One of Nohra’s most difficult life choices, considering the commitment and sacrifices made by both her and her parents to go after a life long dream.
The pay off has been worth it. Since 2009, Nohra has a small team of dedicated employees and she managed to get her husband out of his day job to work with her on the operations side of things. This was “a dream come true” for Nohra.
Direct Wine Cellars imports the most volume of one Italian wine brand – Sensi. They have imported over 230 containers of wine into Australia. That’s over 400,000 cases of booze!
Nohra and her company have won the 2GB small business award and has been a finalist for four major business awards. She was also nominated for Telstra Woman of the Year.
Personally generating over $3 million in sales since her launch, Nohra’s decision to leave her singing career behind was clearly a good life choice.
When she told people what she wanted to do, they said “don’t do it, there is so much wine in Australia!” 230 containers later, Nohra is laughing!

“My super power is bounce-backability! In my business we get knocked down, [and yet, I] still keep getting up and pushing through to the next client, meeting, etc.”
“Trust me when I say many would have given up and considered this too hard by now. You could say I’ve failed at everything I’ve tried to do in my life up until now. I left school before grad to pursue a singing career, did a political degree for nothing, tried building a business where I’ve lost hundreds of thousands in ‘lessons’. It could deter anyone… but not me.”
