This innovation initially came to life when…

We, a group of university researchers, became frustrated at the lack of research that actually translates to the real world. There are thousands of research projects within Australian universities which look into the ways we can improve the health and functional fitness of workers in physically demanding occupations. However, the majority of this research never leaves the academic journals they are published in, because academics aren’t incentivized to go beyond publications. So we decided to leave the safety of universities to try and create a system where workers can truly benefit from this type of research.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…ensure workers are physically fit for their job. The science we deliver is a combination of job analysis and strength and conditioning. Once we understand the workplace demands, we can train workers accordingly, ensuring they are functionally fit.

It does this by…

…giving us an understanding of what physical traits are needed for workers to do their job without risk of injury. We analyse the workplace using a series of scientific methods, then model our training programs based on these findings.

 

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

…we are one of the first Australian companies to commercialise scientific, occupational fitness regimes. Traditionally this science has been provided by universities. However, universities cannot provide the customer what they truly need, as they have their own research agenda. We utilised all the good work universities provide, without the research barriers.

Workplaces asking personal trainers or OH&S specialists to come and promote a healthy and fit workplace. Although an all round level of fitness is encouraged, general fitness is different from occupation fitness. Someone can be extremely fit, but not fit for the job. It is paramount that the workplace is analysed to understand what type of fitness is necessary.

5. TARGET MARKET

Any organisation where workers are required to perform physically demanding work. This includes emergency service organisations or private sector organisations.

The majority of our clients are military and emergency services clients; especially police, firefighters, and emergency rescue operators (State Emergency Services). Workers in these professions are often subjected to annual physical testing. We study workplace demands to ensure these physical tests are scientifically valid. We then deliver occupational fitness programs to ensure workers are training towards the unique demands of their job.

This process can be utilised within the private sector, including; building & construction, mining, transport & logistics businesses.

Contracts with our clients. Once the client expresses their desires, we enter into a contractual arrangement for the delivery of services. The range of services are provided via on-site engagement, or through the provision of digital resources.

Continue delivering high quality scientific services. The majority of our traffic is directed through referrals and word of mouth. Many of our clients operate alongside similar organisations (especially in the emergency management industry) and our engagement with a new client results from this. It is essential we continue to provide services of the highest quality to keep building these relationships.
