1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

Amid Farhand was studying geography in university when Google Maps came out in 2005. He’d never seen anything like it. In 2009 he was helping iron ore explorers with satellite imagery technology. Inspired to go into its own R&D, Takor emerged with Mappt in 2013.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

Democratise the mapping industry. To provide users with a platform that allows them to develop their own bespoke geospatial solutions, rather than retrofit existing mapping technology.

It does this by…

The technology is based on a founding platform called Koomba. The Koomba Platform is an aggregation play providing a “one-stop-shop” for GIS applications. Takor also offers a number of commercial, and soon to be commercialised, products which are derived from the Koomba Platform.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

Google is a search company. They are interested in search data which ultimately leads to advertising. Takor creates platforms that have various geospatial tools on them. Our technology can be a conduit and can integrate into Google. Google is not our competitor, rather they can be seen as yet another avenue whereby users of Takor’s products can share information to.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

…hiring a geospatial expert to collect data on your site, then often develop your own internal mapping systems from scratch.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

Mappt allows users to input their own data and customise their own systems.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

The global geospatial industry is forecast to grow to $72 billion by 2020, according to Orexa and Markets&Markets. Takor’s wide ranging customer base includes defence, agriculture and mining.

It is available for sale through…

The Android store.
