Name: Sarah Timmerman
Age: 30 (Born: October 1986)
Known for: Beginning Boutique – http://beginningboutique.com.au/
Sarah Timmerman, 30, felt inspired after a trip to Paris for her 21st birthday to recreate that shopping experience back home in Brisbane. In 2008, from the comforts of her bedroom she started Beginning Boutique (BB), an online clothing shop designed specifically with the customer in mind.
Since then, it has grown so much that it is now operated in an office environment, and Timmerman employs over 15 full-time staff members, along with an off-site warehouse location.
BB strives to provide outstanding customer service by going the extra mile for their customer via personalised handwritten notes and birthday cards.
When she first started BB, it was a struggle. She couldn’t convince most people that this venture was worthwhile, she used her husband’s money to start up the company—something her family couldn’t get behind—and most days they were faced with the challenge of fixing a crashed website. Timmerman threw a “breaking even party” when the company started making money to celebrate the turn around and defeating the odds against her.
Timmerman’s activities are motivated by a desire to continually work on bettering herself as a businesswoman. This comes with the responsibility of encouraging her team to achieve their goals, and making them and her customers happy. She is also motivated and humbled by her teams creativity, ideas and thirst for knowledge.
BB has become a recognised brand across their social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr and a company blog). BB provides their customers with exceptional content and utilizes social media as a communication tool to talk to their customers.
Social Media has been Timmerman’s most successful buzz building exploit, especially within such a fast-paced industry where consumer trends are always changing and people are always looking for what’s new and exciting. At the time of writing this article, BB has over 556,000 followers on Instagram and 537,000 on Facebook.
In 2015, Timmerman was named a regional nominee of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year award and won both QLD Telstra Businesswoman award and Telstra Business of the Year award.
In 2016, she was chosen by the team at River City Labs to speak with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull along with other young entrepreneurs. This opportunity gave her the chance to step outside of her comfort zone and to give BB exposure to another realm of possibilities as she was featured on Sky News at that time.
Timmerman’s team view her as “an all-round business whizz-kid who cares deeply and passionately about Beginning Boutique.”
