Cool Company Awards

The Cool Company Awards were launched in 2006 as a way for Anthill to acknowledge and celebrate Australian organisations that are doing things differently to bring about positive change. Cool Companies stay one step ahead of the rest. They breed leaders who are rule-makers and rule-breakers. They are trend-setters in attitude and action. Quite simply, they are … cool! More.

HoMie [Finalist, SOCIAL]

Are you a HoMie? A HoMie is a person who looks out for others.

That’s why HoMie founders Marcus, Nick, and Robbie were thinking when they gave this charity its very cool name, ‘Homeless of Melbourne Incorporated’. And, then, ‘Homeless of Melbourne Incorporated Enterprises’ came soon after.

HoMie is in the business of apparel. It’s a brand designed for ‘conscious consumers’ who want to purchase sustainably-sourced products. But that’s not where it ends.

HoMie is Australia’s first every retail clothing store that provides brand-new clothing, accredited training, and guaranteed employment to the homeless community.

That’s right. It provides inexpensive, ethical, cool street-style fashion, while also providing education and jobs to homeless young Australians.

HoMie does everything feasibly possible to manufacture and distribute clothing in an ethical and sustainable manner. The organisation only partners with reputable manufacturers who have a zero tolerance towards child labour, who award fair wages to all staff, who are committed to providing excellent working conditions, and who only use sustainably-produced materials when manufacturing.

As a social enterprise, HoMie does everything it can to ensure that ethical and sustainable practices are promoted at every opportunity along its supply chain. It’s dual-sided social savvy enterprise, making it one of our 2016 Cool Company finalists.
