Cool Company Awards

The Cool Company Awards were launched in 2006 as a way for Anthill to acknowledge and celebrate Australian organisations that are doing things differently to bring about positive change. Cool Companies stay one step ahead of the rest. They breed leaders who are rule-makers and rule-breakers. They are trend-setters in attitude and action. Quite simply, they are … cool! More

Buzinga [Finalist, SAVVY]

Company: Buzinga

State: VIC
Category: SAVVY

From small beginnings, Graham, an experienced business owner and IT professional, met Logan, a passionate young entrepreneur and investor, while working on an app. The two had instant chemistry.

Like gasoline to fire, the power duo realised their combined passions for technology, customer service and workplace happiness could make a big impact on the global app development scene. Thus, Buzinga was born.

Buzinga provides businesses with a platform for testing, building and launching innovative new ideas in the technology space, specialising in mobile first strategies.

Its range of services includes mobile, web and cloud solutions, as well as strategic consulting and planning, doing all this by integrating the latest technologies in the platforms it builds including Augmented and Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning as well as other technologies.

Buzinga as a name, no doubt, is the epitome of being cool. However, what makes this company even cooler is the fact that it caters to the small and middle sized startup or innovative entreprise that has the idea and vision but does not have the technical capability to bring this idea to fruition.

The coolness trickles down from the name and into the culture of the company as well. As well as rewarding, training, incentivising and celebrating, Buzinga also encourages failure which is celebrated on Friday afternoons with a drink in hand.

Each team shares their biggest F*ck Up of the week with the goal to encourage failing fast and learning fast so mistakes are learnt from and not repeated – company wide.

The company is also drawn to clients who are trying to make the world a healthier place, and have worked on several app projects that have environmental impact at their core purpose – whether that be through reducing the amount of cars on the road, reducing packaged food consumption, or raising awareness around wildlife and environmental conservation.

What’s particularly cool about this organisation is the way it has combined the seasoned business skills of a Baby Boomer with the innovative marketing mindset of a Gen Y entrepreneur.

Its rare to see such a wide age gap between founders. But the result is a $5 million turnover company in three years, that’s both remarkable and very cool.
