Attention Australian web leaders! 9×9 Web Thinkers want to peek inside your brain…

We’re big fans of the new video project by 9x9 Web Thinkers. Not only does is look the business, it’s also got the smarts to back it up. If there is one fault we have with the concept, it is that the HTML5, while eye-popping and cool, is inherently unsharable. We would have liked to have shared a snippet with you here -- a teaser to whet your appetite -- but nay.

This morning, it was confirmed that Yahoo!7 has acquired Australian group-buying business Spreets for $40 million. How do you see your role in a startup?

I was thinking about the different roles people play at various stages of a startup and how they approach it, and I was reminded of this old story:

Twitter, good business models and cash registers

I spend a lot of time helping companies find the right business model. One of the first questions we ask is, “How close is your core product to the cash register?” What we mean by this is, “How far are you away from someone actually paying cash for something?” The general principle is, the closer you are, the stronger your business model.

I’m no techie, but I want in! Lessons from the National Growth Summit.

If there's a mistake an SME can make online, I've made it in the last five years. My ecommerce site was hacked for reasons that will soon become apparent. My blog disappeared on the very same day and I avoided joining Twitter until last Friday because, “bloody hell -- I already have enough to do!”

Implementing ideas: Instinct vs Testing

Entrepreneurs like to fly by the seat of their pants, implementing ideas almost as quickly as they occur. However, successful companies know the critical importance of adding a sturdy layer of testing to the product development process. Pollenizer’s Mick Liubinskas explains.
