1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation came to life when…

Cruiser was developed over 7 years by researchers at the University of Sydney and Smart Services CRC and launched in 2012. The original inspiration for Cruiser was as an intuitive touch interface for the elderly to share digital images with family on a table surface, as you would with hard-copy photos of the past.

While digital photos are the new norm, the progress of computer technology had moved faster than the uptake of technology amongst the elderly. Cruiser provides natural hand movement or gesturing without the need for a keyboard or mouse to manipulate images and documents on a touch surface.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

Provide a new way of engaging customers and collaborating and sharing documents and multimedia with colleagues in a touch and gesture enabled paperless world.

It does this by…

It does this by enabling sharing and collaboration on documents and multimedia with seamless connection of touch and gesture-based hardware including; tablets and smartphones, interactive whiteboards, multi-touch tables and gesture-controlled walls.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

It has a unique ability to share and edit content between any touch devices with the flick of a wrist. Cruiser is hardware and operating system agnostic (available on Windows, Mac and Linux) so unlike competitor products you can repurpose existing hardware or use it with the latest touch screen and projected technologies.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Businesses use Cruiser to engage customers in new ways for example:

A real estate client used Cruiser to sell $40 million worth of land.

VIC Police use Cruiser to collaboratively manage their assets.

Mondelez use Cruiser to collaboratively develop new Cadbury chocolates.

Alzheimer’s Australia Vic staff have used Cruiser in their work.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Focusing on software platforms integrated with a piece of hardware for use on a horizontal table surface, or connecting two devices in a classroom.

Our client Mondelez used a manual process of lots of paper posted on walls and along tables which we have replaced digitally with Cruiser and touch tables and interactive whiteboards.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

Microsoft Surface – touch software on a one size table and Snowflake – software for touch surfaces, with no connectivity to collaborate between devices.

 5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

The global connected devices market worth US$814 billion, the touch screen market worth US$16 billion and the interactive whiteboard market worth US$1.4 billion.

In 2013, the number of mobile phones is set to exceed the world population. As a platform agnostic platform that can link all of these technologies to work seamlessly together the market potential for Cruiser is huge.

Cruiser is currently targeting the real estate sector as an exciting and engaging sales resource particularly for new developments, emergency response/defence and the retail market for interactive signage/displays.

It is available for sale through…

Cruiser Interactive currently sells Cruiser licences and customised apps and integrated solutions. To expand, Cruiser Interactive intends to engage strategic partners within the various sectors to assist with distribution and releasing the SDK for developer uptake and distribution.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Position Cruiser as the technology of the future available now for companies who want to engage their customers and collaborate with colleagues using their touch and gesture based hardware seamlessly and without paper. Strategic partners (including 3M), social media and direct sales demonstrations are our main tools.
