What is 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. Each year, we invite our readers to nominate young Australian entrepreneurs deserving of recognition for their outstanding entrepreneurial endeavours. More.

Yohan Dante, NSW (b. 1992)

Name: Yohan Dante
Age: 20 (Born: March 1992)
Gender: Male
State: NSW
Known for: AKARA Creative, myEd Online

At 13, Yohan Dante already knew his passion in life was branding, and wasted little time in pursuing it. The NSW native started AKARA Creative in 2005, taking on a Sydney floral shop as his first client. That’s right… at 13!

In the ensuing years, he has steadily built up his CV with right-brained solutions — in-your-face advertising campaigns, animation, digital strategy, you name it — for some major international companies, even gathering enough attention to chase an opportunity with an agency in New York City.

“Being a creative agency, buzz is built around customer advocacy,” says Dante. “We do that by ensuring we create products, customer service and creative solutions for our clients that exceed expectations.”

His work with Loud Advertising at 17 was a big step toward validation. While working on his IPT media major project in Year 12, he ‘randomly’ got the attention of Loud’s CEO and convinced the exec to take him on. That opportunity gave him access to work with a who’s-who of global names including NEC, ING Direct and Western Union.

Yet his dream job was more ambitious: “a multi-disciplinary designer at a top agency in New York.” He pursued this with the same creative moulding and tinkering that had got him where he was — concocting a marketing campaign featuring himself as his own brand.

“[B]y re-creating my favourite agencies’ websites and twisting them into an advertisement for myself,” he explains. “That’s what put me over the edge and got me invited to talk with Peter Westlund at B-REEL in New York.”

Dante continues to seek out other interests. He’s the founder of Three Drunk Chefs, a catering service, and is on board as a driving force behind the gamified educational web app myEd Online, designed for HSC Exam candidates.

Also, it’s certainly no blemish on his record that the University of Technology of Sydney awarded Dante a BIT Co-op Scholarship, of which he is now in his final year.

“What really drives me is my absolute and all consuming hunger and passion to shape and contribute to the world around me, and design/create things that make other people go ‘wow’. I’m driven by a need to be everything I want to be when I’m 30, yesterday.”

By which time, of course, he will have spent over half his time on earth being all of that. Sounds like ‘wow’ to us.

Anthill asks: Yohan Dante, what’s your super power?

My super power is to see/seize opportunities and work non-stop with no sleep until what I’m designing/creating is absolute perfection in my eyes.
