Why geeks don’t just rule the internet (We never knew that head-tracking was so cool!)

The internet is littered with ‘how-to’ instructional videos. They’re mostly created by amateur bloggers, bored teenagers or university lecturers and, therefore, are either poorly put together, incomprehensible to anyone of driving age or so obscure as to be meaningless.
However, every now and then, something comes along that breaks the mould, like the eepybird.com Mentos + Diet Coke Experiment [1] or this unselfconscious video blog from Microsoft researcher and Carnegie Mellon University graduate Johnny Lee [2]. It’s about how Lee has discovered a way to use the infrared camera from a Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar to render view dependent images on a screen.
I didn’t know what that meant either, until I discovered this example of technical creativity and viral youtube meme in the making. This one’s for geeks (and further evidence why the meek will indeed inherit the earth).
