1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

We wanted an seemingly simple application that illustrated the utility of systems where individuals are given access to their own information.

Designers know that giving individuals agency creates better human systems. Unfortunately the tendency is for organisations who pay for the development of systems to concentrate on agency for the organisation.

WelcomeAboard illustrates how both individuals and organisations benefit by giving both parties agency.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

The Federal Fair Work Act 2009 requires employers to keep records about employees. The Australian Privacy Principles require an employer to make records available to employees. WelcomeAboard provides employers with such a service while reducing record keeping costs.

It does this by…

When a person fills out a form for an organisation the person keeps an electronic copy that they can access independently of the organisation. This means information filled out for one organisation can be reused for another organisation.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

Individuals need only enter information once and once only. Individuals can move data held by one organisation to another organisation without reference to the original organisation.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Less data entry. WelcomeAboard remembers what an end user has done and makes it available for the end user’s own purposes.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Almost all systems have electronic forms where users enter data but few systems give a user an electronic copy for their own use of the data entered on the form.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

WelcomeAboard fits onto existing systems because it adds extra functionality. WelcomeAboard can be retrofitted to any existing system.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

WelcomeAboard can be used for a person to engage with organisations in any capacity. It can be as customer, member, employee, owner, client, contractor, etc.

WelcomeAboard is currently available to integrate with Xero Payroll. All Xero employers (over 400,000) could use WelcomeAboard to onboard employees.

As the system can be retrofitted and as the system is designed to interact with other systems through the Open Source Welcomer Framework the scope for the application in very large.

It is available for sale through…

Initially it is made available directly through websites. However, the major way the system will be made available is through other new and existing applications.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Promote WelcomeAboard through the Xero partner network. As interfaces become available through other networks of corporate customers those will be utilised.
