30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians.

While he may not have his own startup, Tom Newby is the most innovative breed of employee.
Tom says his role at RedEye Apps has inspired him to be a change maker, a thinker and a problem solver.
At the age of 22, the CEO of RedEye Apps asked Tom to make a major career move. He asked Tom to fill the role of development lead, which would prepare him to work as a product manager.
Tom says many employees his age would be hesitant to accept such a valiant offer, seeing as it would be an advanced move for someone just starting their career.
Fortunately, Tom followed his intuition and made the leap. This position has helped Tom develop as a person and a businessman, he says.
He’s learned to use the art of persuasion to insource top talent by recruiting honestly, he says. He’s also used this skill to form cross-discipline team bonds, such as marketing and customer support.
Outside of his role at RedEye Apps, Tom runs PiggyBike, a web app that tracks how much money one saves while biking to work.
Tom created PiggyBike within the span of a month, as well as experimented with various marketing and advertising methods.
PiggyBike has proven successful and was able to generate enough revenue to cover server costs in just six months.
Across these various endeavors, Tom says there’s one thing that motivates him — the opportunity to make a “dent in the universe.”
“I want to be well respected in industry from an entrepreneurial and technological sense,” Tom says. “I want to help others achieve great things as well.”
Proud of his ability to adapt to any task, Tom plans to keep working towards making that dent by developing himself and helping others to do the same.
