Telstra Business Awards 2010

The Telstra Business Award (established in 1992) recognises the success of small and medium size business in Australia and recognises the contribution that small and medium businesses make to the economy of Australia. The Telstra award program also seeks to assist small and medium sized business owners in developing success for their enterprise.

Telstra Business Awards Benefits

The Telstra Business awards give all of its award winners’ greater public profile, national recognition for their business success, along with cash grants and prizes that total over $400,000 dollars. Participation in the contest also allows business owners to network with fellow competitors, set benchmarks for their own business against other businesses and all participants are eligible for an industry approved business health check that will help business owners optimize their business performance and plan for the future.

There is no entry fee for entering the contest and the Telstra Business awards provides cash and services to its award winners at the regional and national level (see categories section below for details).

Are you elegible? (Awards Criteria)

The following conditions must be met:

  • The business must have been in operation for three years in Australia as of April 16, 2010
  • Must must reside in Australia
  • Must have a registered Australian Business number
  • More than 60% Australian owned, and owner must be key person in making the management decision
  • Listed companies and franchises are not eligible; government funded business, non-profit organizations, a 2009 Telstra Business Award winner for the nominated category, a commercial supplier to Telstra are also not eligible.

The award process judges each entrant on the basis of the following criteria: nominee’s details, business details, sales and marketing, customers, team, planning and performance, financials, innovation and social responsibility. All entrants who are selected as nominees will be visited by two judges at a time of the nominee’s choosing to be interviewed for about two hours. This will take place between May 10 and June 18.

Telstra Business Awards Categories

Business Owners Micro Business Award:

For businesses with five or fewer employees.

State/ Territory Award winners: An advertising package valued at $7,000 dollars.
National Award Winner: An advertising package valued at $20 000 dollars.

MYOB Small Business Award:

For businesses that have between five to twenty employees.

State/Territorial Award Winner: MYOB business development grant and MYOB business management software services voucher totalling $7,000.
National Award Winner: MYOB business development grant and MYOB business management software services voucher totalling $7,000.

Panasonic Medium Business Award:

For businesses that have between twenty to two hundred employees

State/Territory Award winner: Choice of a Panasonic Business products package valued at $5,000 RRP.
National Award winner: Choice of a Panasonic Business products package valued at $10,000 RRP.

Specialty Awards

AMP Innovation:

Recognises a business that has successfully introduced innovation.

State/Territory Award winner: Products and services or a business development grant both to the value of $7,000.
National Award winner: Products and services or a business development grant both to the value of $7,000.

Sensis Social Responsibility Award:

Recognises business leadership that has contributed to people, education, environment, or the community.

State/Territorial Award winner: Products and services to the value of $7,000.
National Award winner: Products and services to the value of $7,000.

How to enter the Telstra Business Awards

The business can be self-nominated by the owner(s) or nominated by someone else. Nomination forms are available at http://www.telstrabusinessawards.com/nominate/

The nomination form must be completed by April 16, 2010.

Once the nomination has been completed the nominee will have to complete the online entry form requiring detailed information based on nine different categories. The business owner(s) will also have to provide complete financial data for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 and any available data for 2009-2010 or an estimate of performance.

All short listed nominees will be interviewed at their place of business by two judges between May 10th and June 18th. The judges will make an appointment with the nominee and the interview process will take about two hours. Beginning in June the regional award winners for each category of the Telstra Business awards will be presented with their award at the state/territorial award ceremony.

The regional award winner in each category will be eligible to compete for the national awards in Sydney.  Air travel and two night’s accommodations will be provided. National Judging will take place on August 19, 2010. Each candidate will be interviewed for half an hour by the judges. The National Awards Ceremony will take place the following evening on August 20, 2010.
