Monthly first Australian magazine to confirm plans to launch iPad edition. Should we be...

The media release was destined to arrive sooner or later. Who would be the first Australian print magazine to announce definitive plans to launch an iPad edition? The answer came today. Current affairs title The Monthly made the slightly self-conscious announcement that it "is believed to be the first Australian magazine to confirm an iPad edition ready for the tablet’s 28 May Australian launch, or soon after."

Is this what the magazine of the future will look like… again?

Over the past two weeks, we have published the Sun Newspaper’s parody of the iPhone ads (and other mobile alternatives to print newspapers), Time Inc's prediction of what magazines of the future might look like and a fake (or real) leak of Apple's new Tablet Mac (aka MacTablet aka TabletMac aka iPad aka Apple Slate). But this concept piece put together by design collective BERG certainly has wow factor.

Could this be the future of magazines? Time Inc says, Yes.

Just last week, we posted the Sun Newspaper's parody of the iPhone ads and mobile alternatives to print magazines. It was clever, entertaining and pure ammo for print lovers (who have come under heavy bombardment this year, as digital continues its march over print circulations and into classified advertising revenues). However, it's hard to see how a print magazine might match this collaboration between The Wonderfactory and Time, Inc.
