Sure enough, audiences flocking to see the futuristic teen blockbuster, which has been raking in revenues right and left, were able to verify a cameo appearance by the water container in the sleek, hyper-sanitary control room scenes of the film. 321 Water founder Gretha Oost, who has not yet seen the film, said she was "blown away" when she heard about the sighting.
Among the latest Spark: Pro Winners is an Australian product which was distinguished with a Silver award. You might recognise the name, as earlier this year the innovation also scored top spot in Anthill's Smart 100. Created to promote the use of tap water, 321 Water turns tap water into clean, fresh and tasty water through the use of a filter which uses activated carbon to capture chemicals, including chlorine and other tastes and odours.
Gretha Oost has the heart of an environmentalist and the mind of a marketer. She pondered Australians' propensity to drink water from bottles when, by and large, water from their taps are perfectly safe. Her solution earned top honors in Anthill's SMART 100 for 2011.
It came to life after reading Anita Roddick's book of collected essays, Troubled Water, which amongst other things predicted wars on water in the 21st century. It was not long after, when I was tackling more water-related dilemmas, I determined that the conundrum of bottled water could use a marketer's approach. The notion that in a country where there is perfectly safe tap water available it is ridiculous that we are quenching our thirst with bottled water. My solution: 321 Water.
Gretha Oost is an innovator with a passion for environmental protection and a knack for marketing her own ideas. Her latest creation is 321 Water, a portable, on-the-go water filter. The name refers to the three litres of water required to normally make one litre of bottled water.
Gretha Oost has adopted an unusual approach to raise capital. The Melbourne mum, designer and Pitch Club contestant has decided to trial a 'crowdfunding' approach to launch her award winning product 321 Water.
