What is 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. Each year, we invite our readers to nominate young Australian entrepreneurs deserving of recognition for their outstanding entrepreneurial endeavours. More.

Stan Kruss, NSW (b. 1984)

Name: Stan Kruss
Age: 28 (Born: February 1984)
Gender: Male
State: NSW
Known for: Expo Centric

You don’t need to know what CeBIT stands for to understand that businesses totally dig conventions and exhibitions. But what if your business is the exhibition? A nice booth can help you network and cement name recognition, but it takes much more than bright lights and a big-lettered sign to get someone’s attention.

Stan Kruss understands this. The founder of Expo Centric is dedicated to the whole show room experience, from set design to marketing to digital interactivity.

“We turn marketing objectives into multisensory, three-dimensional experiences that deliver results for our clients,” Kruss explains.

To get those results, he pursues designs that optimise the aesthetics of space and constructs sets that can be reused, thus further saving clients on cost. Expo Centric also specialises in event promotion and management, as well as design of welcoming retail environments and point-of-sale displays.

“Expo Centric is all about innovation and going green,” he says, “which has given our brand an abundance of credibility and brand equity.”

The credibility for Kruss has been hard-earned from the get-go. He started his business in a busy industry on the cusp of the global financial crisis, which forced him to innovate to develop cheaper building materials for custom stands.

“I’m always in the race to come up with the most practical and efficient solution to solve problems before anyone else,” says Kruss. “It’s the great kick I get from the solutions I come up with that motivates me to go even further.”

He also proved that he can build in the digital realm — much to his own surprise. After a medical client inquired about an iPad app, he took a “huge risk” in an unknown field and worked on its development. Expo Centric now has its own iPad department that creates apps for clients to manage their exhibitions and connect with audiences.

In fact, Kruss has a staff of 36 employees, who have worked with over 80 multinational clients — all in less than four years. They’ve helped him to design 180 exhibition stands in just this year, putting Expo Centric among the top ten stand-building companies in Australia without any outside funding. All because he had the foresight to spot a demand and fill the gap.

“I find that my thinking path is different than other people,” he says. “I’m good at coming up with ideas that are out of this world, that sound crazy, but always pull through in the end successfully.”

Anthill asks: Stan Kruss, what gives you entrepreneurial cred?

I am best known for never giving up, always finding solutions and traveling the globe to find the best solutions for our clients.
