1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

Innovation is high on government agendas. However, the current focus is on innovation at a business, or city level. RDAMNC represents a region which comprises of two regional cities and many smaller townships. We believe that innovation has relevance across the entire region enabling collaborative partnerships between big cities and little towns, scale for procurement, sharing ideas, collaborative partnerships between local government and business. And importantly sharing an enterprising culture across the region. We believe the strategy has implications which will enhance innovation across Australia.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…create and drive collaborative partnerships across diverse regional communities. The strategy takes current government innovation policy into account and leverages what is happening against what is possible.

It does this by…

…looking at the strengths and potential of a whole region, synthesising comparable ideas, forming collaborative relationships and drawing together cross-sector partnerships.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

…rather than focusing on a city based model, the SMART Region Strategy looks at how smaller townships can leverage opportunities in innovation across smaller regional communities.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Smaller communities that do not always have the capability (nor will) to innovate. The SMART Region strategy focuses on a series of similarities between the regional cities of the Mid North Coast of NSW and surrounding smaller towns.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

While much work has been done in the context of designing SMART cities, and implementing innovation in larger towns, smaller towns are not always included in these conversations. The SMART region strategy leverages the work of larger regional cities and translates relevance to smaller communities thereby creating a coherent and consistent region (rather than one city).

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Government. Particularly, local government. We hope local government organisations will adopt similar strategies enabling more coherent identity and branding for regions, cost saving through joined procurement, cohesive relationship development and collective project management.

It is available for sale through…

Regional Development Australia Mid North Coast’s commercial services via website.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Gain endorsement from the Commonwealth Government then promote through the national Regional development Australia network (55 organisations covering the entire country).
