This innovation initially came to life when…

I began developing SkyGPU in response to a huge gap in the architectural, engineering and construction industries ability to access data and collaborate when working different regions or from home. I first identified the gap when I was working for a mid-size Brisbane-based architectural company as a draftsperson, 3D software specialist and IT manager. We would often collaborate on large scale projects with external engineers and huge amounts of time were wasted working with out of date drawings and 3D models supplied by stakeholders on a weekly basis. This also resulted in significant labour costs to all stakeholders.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…enable access to all software and data by CAD/BIM and 3D application users from any where, at any time, from any device, in a collaborative environment.

…Novius SkyGPU is a Desktop-As-A-Service solution. This means that we rent out virtual workstations and servers hosted in the cloud to business’s so that their staff can access their workstation from anywhere. It is a “turn key” solution, meaning that we include all required solution design, software and support into a single monthly subscription backed by a performance guarantee.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

…software alternatives to our service include Autodesk BIM360, Dropbox and Panzura just to name a few. The challenge with these software packages is that they often fail due to heavy strain on internet connections that are either not fit-for-purpose or non-existent. Our service can be accessed over 3G/4G reliably, without over consuming data, providing huge coverage nationally.

It provides access to company information from anywhere securely. This enables remote teams, staff (particularly new mothers), and external consultants to participate and contribute to company projects remotely. In addition, our service greatly reduces business IT capital expenditure.

Over the last 5 years, several companies in Australia have constructed a similar solution to ours built internal to their business. Many challenges were faced by these organisations due to the complexity and expense of the solution, and the length research and development process required to achieve a desirable outcome. Software alternatives only solve aspects of the problem.

5. TARGET MARKET

Our primary target markets are construction (including engineering and architecture), manufacturing and mining/oil & gas. The construction market in Australia is valued at approximately $200bn p/annum alone. This is approximately 7% to 8% of the GPD as recorded between 2010 and 2014. Our service brings benefit to all professional services practices within this target market. In 2016, the approximate combined total of registered engineers and architecture was 400,000. It can be justified that the majority of these professionals would experience benefits from our platform. Secondary target markets include medical imaging, cloud video gaming and telecommunications broadcasting.

The service is currently available for sale to the architectural, engineering, construction, manufacturing, energy, government and mining sectors through our reseller A2K Technologies. It can also be purchased by a business in any industry vertical by contacting us directly.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Marketing advertisements distributed digitally via channels such as LinkedIn and Google Adwords / Re-marketing. Outbound phone and email campaigns are run by Novius directly and by resellers. The target of all marketing activities are middle, upper and executive managers of professional services organisations servicing the construction industry, (IT, CAD & operations managers in particular).
