Sensis reports have found that almost half of Australian SMEs are missing an online presence and that most lack a digital strategy, prompting a tour across Australia to help businesses enter the digital world.

According to the latest Sensis eBusiness Reports, only 54% of Australian small businesses have a website, 15% have a social media presence with merely 13% having a digital strategy in place, which means that 46% of Australian businesses are neglecting the competitive advantage that the internet is able to provide them and that most of them don’t even have a digital strategy.

To help businesses enter the digital age and tackle any problems and doubts they might have regarding the digital world, Sensis has decided to take its Yellow Pages team of experts in an tour to 21 regional towns between the 14th September and the 27th October.

“With consumers using the web for everything – from finding information to sharing opinions – it is crucial that SMEs all around the country invest in a digital strategy,” stated Martin Dench, Yellow Pages Driving Your Business Ambassador.

“Businesses that already have a digital strategy report that it has had a positive impact on their efficiency, profits and cash flow – so it really can help businesses get a competitive advantage,” Martin Dench added.

The Driving Your Business Series tour will give the opportunity for small business owners to participate in free digital marketing seminars, where they will be given practical tips on how to drive their businesses to success using digital marketing. A local SME with web presence will also be present at each location to share their insights and experiences.

The tour has begun in Mornington, has been on Canberra, and will be in Darwin, Penrith, Cairns and Wollongong, among other towns before finishing in Newcastle on the 27th October.

“We are delighted to be involved in Sensis Driving Your Business campaign. As small business we know exactly how difficult it can be to choose the right marketing channels, especially with all the new opportunities available through digital,” said Peter Hearn, owner of Buy Wise Inspections.

“Digital marketing has been very beneficial for our business in recent years, so it is great that we can share our insights and tips with other SMEs,” Hearn added.

This is the second tour that Sensis launches to promote online presence among Australian SMEs. The first tour took between between May and June and was attended by 1500 SMEs all over Australia.
