What is the 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians.

Each year, we invite our readers to nominate young Australian entrepreneurs deserving of recognition for their outstanding entrepreneurial endeavours. More.

Phillip Hoare, NT (b. 1988)

Name: Phillip Hoare
Age: 24 (Born: December 1988)
Gender: Male
Territory: NT
Known for: Suave Concept Homes

If you’re a Territorian at your roots or are looking to settle down and start a new life as one, this gentleman wants to build your dream home.

Darwin’s Phillip Hoare is the founder and owner of Suave Concept Homes. He builds for some big clients – namely the Federal and NT Governments and Power & Water Corp. – whilst reaching out more and more to private investors, charities, and homebuyers with eyeballs on the Top End’s hot housing market.

“Building homes is an exciting and rewarding profession,” says Hoare. “It’s great to be able to go from a patch of dirt to a finished product and inspect every square inch of the project.”

Suave’s end-product is simple: houses that are built high in quality (especially with energy efficiency), in a timely fashion, and at an affordable price. The company has been growing healthily each of its five years in business, and Hoare expects to crack $4 million in turnover this year.

Hoare also runs Arnhem Contracting in tandem with his construction business, which ensures that every step in a project is carried out safely, and with his full supervision, from beginning to end.

At 24, Hoare can enjoy the claim of being the youngest Territorian to head a construction company – and probably the youngest to own four fleet vehicles and a plane. Still, he doesn’t want to be known simply as a young, experienced entrepreneur whose genius is in reading investment opportunities and raking in the dollars. He’s also pretty down to earth, and, for a builder, painstakingly humble. He’s known in Darwin’s circles for his charitable side and for not chasing the dollar. He even stepped in to finish a shoddy home for a client who had been ripped off by a dodgy builder.

Hoare’s humility has allowed him to be easily adaptable in the face of failure. As his empire grows, so does his realisation that there’s so much more to know about business.

“I don’t have setbacks,” says Hoare, “only learning curves.”

Anthill asks: Phillip Hoare, what motivates you as an entrepreneur?

Seeing a finished product and buying my next investment. Money is nothing more than a pathway to bigger and better things.
