1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

This innovation came to life when Emil Tastula a resources industry journeyman, bought the idea of a networked, communicating gas detector to Andrew Thurlow a local technology entrepreneur. The team was further strengthened by safety expert David Thomson who have taken the project from its inception to the brink of certification and global sales.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

The Personal Safety Monitor is a handheld mobile sensor panel for lone and at risk workers especially gas hazards, slips trips and falls and bio-metrics. The monitor also has redundant voice communications and location derivation.

It does this by…

The Personal Safety Monitor has Cellular, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth communications platforms working in unison with the inbuilt sensors to convey data on workers well being back to a remote safe operator. The operator can make decisions based on the data received and if necessary contact the wearer of the personal safety monitor to determine the need for assistance.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

Current handheld gas detectors report locally to the user or store data to be interrogated once the user returns to dock the device. Other wireless gas detectors require high setup functionality or only operate in some scenarios. The Personal Safety Monitor is designed to work in all scenarios with redundant location and communications as well as information to the user

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Currently for customers to get location, communications, gas hazard and slips trip and falls protection there must be three or four devices worn by the user. The data from these devices are not matched and often not real time.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Other gas detectors on the market report to the user only and use IR to connect to a data collector which is held in the battery recharge room. Data which exceeds recommended exposure levels, requires an operator to try to determine exposure based on user records of areas visited. Fatalities were often discovered too late and near misses never noticed.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

The gas detection industry is expected to hit US$3B by 2020. Compeditors include Honeywell GasAlert, Honeywell PhD6, Honeywell MultiRAE , Draeger X-2500, Industrial Scientific MX6 Ibrid, MSA Altair, GasClip, GMI PS500, Riken Keiki GX8000 and Crowcon GasPro

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

The target market is large Industrial plants, Oil and Gas refineries and platforms, Mining Infrastructure (including mines) Metals Manufacturing, Telecommunications, Plumbing and other confined space entry operations. Realistically any organisation with at risk workers who encounter hazards in the work place could benefit with oversight from a remote operator who can act appropriately with the data received and if necessary contact the user in danger or close by coworkers to give fast, safe action. This is the new standard in evacuation, fast first response and preempting emergencies with clear near miss and accident potential data collected by a single unit.

It is available for sale through…

Universal Site Monitoring is currently setting up distribution channels in Australia, Europe and Asia. The product will only be available through distribution allowing distributors to work with local communications carriers to ensure clear data flow in local situations.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Universal Site Monitoring has already undertaken promotional activities in 2016 through trade shows in Europe, Asia and North American and through trials with large corporates in Belgium, Canada and Spain. More trade show promotion is underway in 2017 with particular focus on the European market to take advantage of strong interest in the steel production sector.
