1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

…we noticed that there was a need for greater transparency in the automotive servicing industry.

Our parents, whom have owned and operated a mechanical servicing workshop for over 10 years built a foundation of trust, integrity and transparency with their client base through the use of digital photography of work carried out on vehicles.

It was at this point (having run an app development agency for nearly 5 years), that we knew there was a viable digital solution worth building. One that would offer a simple to use app to build better relationships between workshops and their customers.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…build transparency in the automotive servicing industry.

Customers are often left wondering what they’ve paid for and if it was needed. Orbit gives workshops a user-friendly mobile-app and report building tool that provides customers with photographic reports, helping solve uncertainties.

It does this by…

…using a mobile app alongside a simple dashboard. Workshops input a customer’s details into the dashboard which then become visible inside the app.

Mechanics then take photos of the work carried out on a vehicle in pre-defined categories.

These photos then automatically upload and the service manager creates a visual report for the customer in just a few clicks.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

…workshops would be taking photos on a digital camera – This made it difficult to easily transfer them to customers (especially in bulk). Customers would then have to be walked through photos in store.

Orbit on the other hand, instantly uploads photos from the app to the dashboard and provides a beautifully simple report builder for the customer’s photographic records.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

…a better understanding of costly work carried on their vehicle, photographic evidence, peace of mind, online social sharing features and a digital service history record which can be used to help sell their vehicle.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

…some workshops taking digital photography of vehicles in their workshop and then manually walking customers through on their computer (without the ability to offer them a digital report for their own records or log into their own account to view online). This was an arduous process because of the need to manually connect a camera to the computer.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

http://workshopsoftware.com.au/ This software is used for the general day to day operation of a workshop

http://virapp.com.au/ Digital reporting for the hire car industry

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

…workshops and mechanics primarily (in the sense that they are the paying customer). More importantly really, Orbit is made for every day people – anyone who owns or is responsible for the servicing of a vehicle. People who want peace of mind about the quality of work performed on their car.

Whether they’re individual owners, corporate managers or government agencies with large fleets, Orbit is able to provide that assurance about the work they’ve paid for.

It is available for sale through…

…the website (once we launch). There will be 3 standard pricing tiers with a fourth reserved for enterprise sales.

Our marketing strategy is to…

…establish relationships with well known motoring and servicing bodies for national accounts. Through direct networking, proposals and demonstrations have already been requested from Carzoos.com.au (an AP Eagers brand), Ultra Tune HQ and local council.
