I believe this article was very insightful and astute. Alot of Australian companies have been burnt from employing highly paid US sales people from big companies who don't know what it really takes to sell products from small Australian companies. I have also found sales partners rarely work as they place a low priority on selling another companies products.

Another approach worth considering that keeps the cost down is to employ a home based sales rep who has experience in selling innovative products from small companies. Of course the founders need to work closely with those sales people until they get up to speed, but having a US based rep is valuable in closing sales and speeding up the sales cycle.
