An online marketplace has partnered with an innovative start-up to offer small businesses way better delivery

1

Sendle, Australia’s first door-to-door carbon neutral delivery service, is partnering with Etsy, the online marketplace for handmade and vintage goods, as part of their ongoing commitment to help small business operators in Australia.

The partnership, which recently came into effect, gives Etsy Sellers a free Sendle Premium account (usually $120 per year) plus an extra $1 off every delivery for the next 12 months.

With Sendle’s convenient pickup and delivery service, Etsy sellers not only get access to low, flat-rate pricing Australia wide, they’ll also save themselves and their customers a trip to the post office.

What is the purpose of this partnership?

“Our recent report into Etsy’s Australian community identified that the majority of our sellers are sole traders, female, under 35 and often have children with them at home. We recognise that for these people, dealing with deliveries takes up too much of their day. With Sendle’s door-to-door delivery service Etsy’s valued sellers will regain precious time as they no longer need to leave their house and line up to send their products to customers,” explains Helen Souness, Etsy Australia CEO.

“As a fellow certified B Corp, we really value Sendle’s commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices. Partnering with Sendle allows us to offer the Etsy community access to a fantastic delivery service that’s 100 per cent carbon offset.”

Sendle CEO James Chin Moody says; “Small business owners are at the heart of the Australian economy, and we are delighted to be partnering with Etsy to help them. Sendle was founded to create a simple, reliable and affordable parcel delivery service tailored exactly to this group – with door-to-door delivery cheaper than lining up at the post office.”

“We can’t wait to save Etsy sellers both time and money on their deliveries, so that they can focus on making beautiful things.”

How is the partnership working out so far?

We got in touch with three Etsy sellers already taking advantage of Sendle, who told us about their experiences.

H and G Designs was the passion project I discovered whilst doing a low budget unit renovation with my partner Glenn. Designing and making beautiful, unique objects was something that we learned we did really well together, so we just never stopped.

My process

Selling our creations on Etsy has been such an amazing, freeing experience. There’s nothing better than working when I want, wearing what I feel like and turning the music up as loud as I like!

As with most small businesses, I’m not just the owner, I’m also everything else – maker, designer, bookkeeper, packer, sales, social media and customer service. It’s busy!

Sendle

We are so passionate about what we make. The creative process of designing, testing and sampling takes ages to get right, and it’s not really something you can rush. I still get butterflies when I think of a new design and childlike excitement when we start building the prototype.

As a creative person, the admin-side of running a business takes me away from what I’m really good at. Sendle makes my life so much easier because it streamlines the whole delivery experience. I now have an extra hour in the day to go to the beach, pack my orders, or get creative. The dashboard makes tracking my deliveries so easy, and in the first few months I saved over $1000 in my freight costs. It has been so good for our business!

When I decided to turn my passion for handcrafted interiors into a business, Etsy was the obvious place to start. I’ve loved shopping on Etsy for a long time and transitioning from a customer to a seller was the most seamless experience. The getting started guides have given me so much confidence to grown my business, and I’m so proud of the creative business I’ve carved out for myself at home.

The magic happens in my tiny home-studio. I have a paint-topped trestle table that’s surrounded by supplies and tools. It’s super messy, but it’s organised mess!

My Process

Everything I make is crafted and finished by hand so there is no greater joy then getting a message from a customer telling you how much they love their new item. It’s so exciting because everything I do with my store is done to the absolute best of my ability… it’s so lovely when a customer appreciates that.

Sendle

Running a business with two small children means that every moment of my day counts. It’s always a balancing act between spending time in my studio, responding to my amazing customers and being a full-time mum. Sendle is so convenient and saves me so much time. Booking deliveries takes seconds and because they come and collect from my doorstep, I don’t need to step outside to delight my customers.

It’s kind of revolutionary for a delivery company to care but I feel that the Sendle team actually knows and cares about my business – it’s personal and I love that.

Selling on Etsy means that we’re able to reach a community of people who love and respect the craft and care that goes into our products. Engraving is such a personal service, and it means that every item we produce – be it on timber, glass, as a gift or for a commemoration – is thoughtful and unique.

Sendle

When you’ve got a young family and a busy business, having the flexibility to work how we need to is amazing. We’ve tested quite a few delivery options in the past, but nothing quite worked for us. Sendle is so convenient – booking is simple, the pricing is reasonable and not having to muck around at the post office means we’ve got extra time to wow our customers or go to swimming lessons with our daughter.
