New website aims to make engineering sexy for students

Engineering forms the basis of so many of the world’s most impressive innovations – from bridges to bytes. It’s also closely associated with the can-do entrepreneurial spirit that drives economies forward. So it is troubling that more talented children don’t pursue engineering as a career option.
In a bid to change this, the Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering at the University of Sydney used the occasion of Engineering Week to launch www.engineeringicons.org.au [1].
The site is designed to encourage more high school students to see engineering as an interesting and viable career path. It profiles Australian Icons [2] (engineering projects and people that have changed Australia), World Icons [3] and Clever Engineering [4], as well as providing plenty of resources on how to become an engineer.
The Warren Centre plans to add more Icon profiles over time and has invited suggestions from the public. It is also looking for more sponsors to support the project.
