What is 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants, so we thought we would highlight some of the bright and innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30 by a wink. Most marketers say they have ‘social media experience’. Mike Watkins has eight years of it.
Knowing Facebook inside-out pretty much from its inception has made the founder of Digiocial into a guru among gurus.
Brand Temper is Watkins’ latest innovation for helping brands to gauge their social media influence. The platform, which periodically tracks and updates its measurements of fans talking about brands, got its jump-start through a special data report on over 100 brands released by Watkins.
“I laid out the data findings for each brand and overlaid it with my own analysis of each brand,” he explains.
Four major newspapers picked up the report, and the Brand Temper website reached 10,000 weekly page views within a month.
Despite a failed first business and a legal dispute with a former investor, Watkins has pulled through and reinvented himself, largely by his own bootstraps.
“Bouncing back is one of my best traits,” he declares.
