Cool Company Awards

The Cool Company Awards were launched in 2006 as a way for Anthill to acknowledge and celebrate Australian organisations that are doing things differently to bring about positive change. Cool Companies stay one step ahead of the rest. They breed leaders who are rule-makers and rule-breakers. They are trend-setters in attitude and action. Quite simply, they are … cool! More.

Uppercut Deluxe is the epitome of cool, from their product, the culture they promote to their seriously cool promotional videos. Check out the video below to get an idea of how cool this company is.

Uppercut Deluxe was born out of frustration. As lots of great companies do, they saw a need in the market and decided to fill it. As most people know, most hair products are designed for women. So, Uppercut Deluxe they set about designing a product for men that they would not only use but be proud of, that would make them feel like men!

The brand was built by the creative brains, passion and hard work of Luke Newman and Steve Purcell, childhood friends with a love for barbering, surfing and skateboarding.

Xmas-2016-product-Insta10Uppercut Deluxe is more than just a hair product. It’s about transformation. Helping guys look slick and polished and more confident. Customers relate to their brand for it’s honesty and simplicity.
A true game-changer, Uppercut’s innovative cosmetic formulation, hard work and determination has led to a very cool product, that’s different and entrepreneurial. They don’t dictate trends, but they try to enable them.

“Uppercut” was the nickname of Luke’s Grandfather Willy OShea. Willy was an old boxer who toured rural Australia during the great depression. Willy had a tough upbringing and his motto was “a hard beginning maketh a good ending.” That legacy lives on today in the brand and they understand you gotta pay your dues in order to enjoy the good times.

A barber shop is more than just a place a place to get your hair cut. It’s a welcoming place to hang out and enjoy the culture. It’s a timeless trade that cultivates community and Uppercut Deluxe reflects that in its brand.
