Cool Company Awards

The Cool Company Awards were launched in 2006 as a way for Anthill to acknowledge and celebrate Australian organisations that are doing things differently to bring about positive change. Cool Companies stay one step ahead of the rest. They breed leaders who are rule-makers and rule-breakers. They are trend-setters in attitude and action. Quite simply, they are … cool! More.

PredictiveHire [Finalist, INNOVATION]

Company: PredictiveHire
Website: www.predictivehire.com
State: VIC
Category: INNOVATION

PredictiveHire came into being because of the frustration experienced by one of its founders. Passed over for his dream job, Paul Burley decided to level the playing field for candidates and remove the bias, unconscious or otherwise, from candidate selection.

Paul had been continually side-lined by hiring decision-makers, who made had made their decisions based on criteria other than the skills required for the job, such as whether you went to the ‘right’ school or were the ‘right’ gender.

So, he decided to build a fairer model. (And, of course, he ended up not needing to work for someone else, because he had started his own company! Woot!)

PredictiveHire  removes bias and subjective decision making from the recruitment process. Choosing high-performers, based on traditional methods, is often no more accurate than a guess.

This cool company employs smart econometricians and data scientists that use a company’s own data to build a model that is specific to their needs. This removes subjectivity from the hiring process, saving companies countless dollars by reducing ‘mis-hires’.

The 10 minute PredictiveHire survey is often described as “a completely different” experience for job candidates, when compared to traditional methods. With questions like ‘Have you ever attended a high-school reunion?’; ‘How many ready meals do you eat each week?’ or ‘Do you like horror movies?’, it’s both intriguing and impossible to ‘game’.

Performing predictive analytics is sure to clog the brain. PredictiveHire employees embark on “group LEGO” projects to unwind.

According to this cool companies application: “PredictiveHire is like the jetski to the cruise ship; the local farmer’s market to Coles / Woolies; Fonda to fast food; MONA to the Gold Coast. Basically we’re doing candidate assessment in the best way possible with the best possible tools that are now available.”
