What are the Anthill Cool Company Awards?

The Cool Company Awards were launched in 2006 as a way for Anthill to acknowledge and celebrate Australian organisations that are doing things differently to bring about positive change. Cool Companies stay one step ahead of the rest. They breed leaders who are rule-makers and rule-breakers. They are trend-setters in attitude and action. Quite simply, they are … cool! More.

Category: X-Factor

Pollenizer provides all the services a business needs to create an online presence. Well and good. Australia is stuffed with companies that do that. Where Pollenizer sets itself apart is that it serves as a web-business’ co-founder. In their own words, “we will be there from idea inception to launch and forward, with our team helping every step of the way.”

Phil “Entreprenerd” Morle and Mick “Mr. Focus” Liubinskas formed Pollenizer after seeing an opportunity to help grow web startups in Australia by offering marketing, product and tech help. They’re not paying lip service when they say they are a startup’s partner.

Pollenizer has 18 portfolio companies (including Anthill 30under30 honoree Nikki Durkin‘s 99dresses.com), 125 employees worldwide, $10 million raised and $50 million in valuation. “And we did it in less than three years with $1,000 and two great friends.”

How does Pollenizer protect its ideas? In short, it doesn’t. “We share them. By not sharing your idea, you’re depriving it of oxygen. Ideas need to be able to grow and develop and that can only occur through sharing.”

Another thing that makes Pollenizer cool: It knows how to celebrate. Each Friday, they gather in a “X-Pollenization” meeting to discuss the week’s achievement and enjoy “copious amounts of cheese.” The team is rewarded each quarter if goals are reached. “We are set to go go-karting.”

But neither compare to the piñatas. Each time a team member hits a quarterly goal, they get a whack at one of three piñatas — a bull, an oversized chili, and a thong.

Oh, and co-founder Liubinskas, who serves as CEO and head of marketing and capital raising, will happily take a pie to the face, all in the name of customer development.
