What are the Anthill Cool Company Awards?

The Cool Company Awards were launched in 2006 as a way for Anthill to acknowledge and celebrate Australian organisations that are doing things differently to bring about positive change. Cool Companies stay one step ahead of the rest. They breed leaders who are rule-makers and rule-breakers. They are trend-setters in attitude and action. Quite simply, they are … cool! More.

CloudHerd [Finalist]

Company: CloudHerd Pty Ltd
Website: cloudherd.com
State: NSW
Category: Innovation

Have you heard about CloudHerd?

Well, if you’re like us, the unique niche they are innovating in is very near and dear to your heart. You see, CloudHerd is on a mission to revolutionize the meat supply chain.

CloudHerd is a livestock management application that allows farmers to inventory, track, and auction their livestock using a first-of-its-kind auction platform. In doing so, the company eliminates the need to transport livestock simply for showing. Using CloudHerd, the livestock only needs transport after it has been sold. How about them apples, huh Wilbur?

That’s not the only way CloudHerd is saving its customers money, either. In a global livestock marketplace worth $1.4 trillion USD, and a typical cost of 3 to 8-per cent in traditional sales, CloudHerd sales cost livestock farmers about 1-per cent of the selling price.

Quaint as all this talk about livestock and farm auctions may be, CloudHerd is a business of the best kind: the disruptive and innovative sort.

“The entire organisation is a disruptive and innovative one, it applies cloud technology to a market that has few cloud systems addressing its unique needs,” the company tells us.

“We not only use cloud technology but also Internet of Things devices, RFID technology, genetics information and financial tech.”

To achieve their mission, the company combines a wide range of different systems to produce a date-rich auction system that is if fully analytical and measurable. Before CloudHerd came along to shake things up, farmers had only agents, stockyards, and classified ads to rely on when it came time to sell their herds. CloudHerd brings the farm to the future.

The company, which launched in 2012, is currently helping Australia’s more than 40,000 cattle farmers bring their products to market using the Web, CloudHerd plans to expand to allow other types of farmers to sell their livestock online.

For now, as the company tells us, they’re content to simply “sell cows online.”
