What are the Anthill Cool Company Awards?

The Cool Company Awards were launched in 2006 as a way for Anthill to acknowledge and celebrate Australian organisations that are doing things differently to bring about positive change. Cool Companies stay one step ahead of the rest. They breed leaders who are rule-makers and rule-breakers. They are trend-setters in attitude and action. Quite simply, they are … cool! More.

Christmas Casuals [Finalist, Number ‘Crusher’ Award]

Company: Christmas Casuals
Website: www.christmascasuals.com.au
State: VIC
Category: Number Crusher Award

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. And, if you work in retail or run a seasonal business, that means…

More casuals! Argh!!!

Only two years young, Christmas Casuals pairs employers in the hospitality, retail or warehousing industries with young vibrant job seekers, who are in need of casual employment.

The model is not new. Yet, the CC approach is fresher than an Xmas turkey, straight from the oven.

By exploiting the rise of targeted social media ads, Christmas Casuals has  attracted over 60,000 candidates by reaching 4 million people on Facebook and, according to the boss David Zanker, “We’ve landed every client we’ve pitched to.”

The Christmas Casuals website employs leading-edge technology to filter candidates, allowing employers to find staff within a certain geographical area. Paying clients simply log in, at any time, and use the platform to find staff and recruit casuals.

Christmas Casuals is doing its part to help the environment too.

Its “Work Local” mantra comes from the idea that if you can find a job near your home, you remove the inefficiency of people traveling every day for work. This cuts down on travel expense for the employee and helps the planet in the process.

But what we found particularly cool about this cool company is that it took a tiny niche and is making it massive, proving that you don’t need mainstream appeal to be a number crusher.
