What is 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants, so we thought we would highlight some of the bright and innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30 by a wink. Marcus Lim loves the home trades (from plumbing to landscaping to masonry) and wants to make the market for them more efficient and less fragmented.
Lim is the co-founder and director of operations of OneFlare, which lets homeowners post detailed jobs and compare quotes from servicemen in their area.
The service (formerly Pickaquote.com.au) is available Australia-wide, and over 20,000 businesses have registered.
Lim has raised $250,000 in funding from investors and government organisations for OneFlare, including a government grant from Singapore.
“We aim to be the Amazon for home services,” says the NSW native, who served in the military and worked as a consultant for Deloitte before launching the startup.
“Oneflare effectively and efficiently matches customers and service providers together with the least amount of friction.”
Anthill asks: Marcus Lim, what motivates you as an entrepreneur?
The ability to inflict change in people’s lives motivates me as an entrepreneur. It’s always in my DNA to identify and establish the best possible solution to improve a process. The thrill about being an entrepreneur is not just about facing implementation challenges but it’s about figuring out how to make an idea work.
