What is the 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians.

Each year, we invite our readers to nominate young Australian entrepreneurs deserving of recognition for their outstanding entrepreneurial endeavours. More.

Logan Merrick, VIC (b. 1989)

Name: Logan Merrick
Age: 27
Gender: MALE
State: VIC
Known for: Buzinga App Development

Logan Merrick and Graham McKorkill are what some may call ‘idea guys.’ Quite simply, they turn creative ideas into apps.

Logan describes Buzinga as “an app development and innovation consultancy, helping startups and enterprises commercialize ideas and implement mobile-first strategies.”

Since the business’ start in 2012, Buzinga has grown to be an award-winning company and has produced extremely popular apps, such as FoodSwitch and That Sugar App. Buzinga has also been involved in more than 200 mobile app projects and turns over $4 million annually.

It all began when Logan and Graham met while Graham was in the process of developing his own app. The two teamed up in an entrepreneurial fashion to create Buzinga.

“I believe that we’re living in an age that is desperate for real, sustainable innovation,” Logan says. “I founded my company to address this need.”

Along with Buzinga comes Buzinga’s Pollination Events, which are collaborative sessions open to anyone in the innovation community.

“We attract powerhouse speakers representing companies including Uber, xLabs and Foodora, delivering ‘Ted-X style’ presentations that attendees can action on,” Logan says.

These events greatly contribute to Logan’s goal of creating a thriving community for innovation in Australia.

Over the years, Logan has learned which clients most strongly contribute to this “ecosystem of innovation.”

Rather than working with everyone and anyone, Buzinga now focuses on health, education, safety, transport and sustainability.

Landing clients and ensuring their satisfaction isn’t a simple job, Logan says, but his people skills seem to be a strong suit of his.

“I consider myself an expert in human behavior and connection, to the extent that I often can predict how someone will react before even they know how they’ll react,” Logan says.

This skill, which Logan describes as a type of “visionary ability” has helped him succeed in the business world when working with clients and forming valuable relationships.
