1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

…We found out 85% of the world cannot afford legal services and our online law firm could reach a decent percentage of Australians at affordable rates but we needed to build something more that could drop the cost right down but still provide high quality work. I personally grew up in a small country town where the wealthy cane farmers could use the town lawyer but everyone else just ‘knew their place’ and couldn’t get help to change their stars. We aim to level out the playing field using the Law on Earth Portal to provide legal assistance to everyone.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…provide a self-service legal platform that provides guides and documents, along with hundreds of videos so that the public can take care of their own legal needs and have a lawyer video in if necessary.

It does this by…

…providing the information and documents the lawyers use themselves, the customer can do most of the grunt work themselves saving thousands of dollars, and get the lawyer to review it, so they’re only paying for the actual legal work, not paying legal rates for filling in forms. It is geo-tagged to apply the right law to that person’s location.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

…the market currently makes customers choose between either law firms or template providers who can’t give advice and don’t explain the documents and what each clause means. They send customers back to lawyers for advice, back to high cost. Our platform has lawyers video in for a 20 minute fixed fee or live chat to give the relevant advice.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

…this product will allow people who can’t afford lawyers to be educated on their situation, and it will save a lot of time and money for customers. It allows customers to collaborate and receive updates on law changes, grants, etc.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

The problem has never been solved as the template providers create a false sense of security. The documents are poor quality and customers are signing their rights away without any legal advice. But the lawyers are charging for administrative work at legal rates. So this gives customers the material, video education and guides, and only charging for actual legal advice.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

Legal Zoom, Rocket Lawyer, LawPath, Cleardocs and several others have attempted to crack this market but are merely template providers sending customers back to lawyers again for advice, therefore not addressing the actual pain point and putting customers at risk.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

…any person who is computer literate. We offer wills and estate planning work, commercial/business packs, leasing, franchising, family law and immigration. So it is a broad market.

It is available for sale through…

…it is a web platform and will also be available on iphone and android later this year. We will launch giving free access to the advice centre and then offer subscriptions or one off packages depending on their needs.

Our marketing strategy is to…

…target the entrepreneur community first and the business schools, NEIS providers, and tafes initially on the business side, and we will use our social media channels. We already have over 18,000 connections online and people all over the world waiting for this to launch in the coming months, including Bank of Ireland and other big players.
