Back in December 2011, University of Queensland BFFs Mark Cracknell and Nathan Hoad launched the world’s first live broadcast social network.
Not bad going for the whippersnappers, aged 21 and 25 respectively. In fact, Kondoot is Cracknell’s first job out of university.
“Nathan and I have strong IT backgrounds, with both of us having degrees… in IT,” Cracknell says.
“While we may be young, with… hard work, we are making Kondoot a success.”
Cracknell and Hoad aren’t the only ones who think the company’s going places. They recently raised a cool $800,000, facilitated by the Australian Small Scale Offerings Board, then followed it up with a further $3.2 million during a funding trip to the US.
The Wall Street Journal even went as far as to liken Cracknell to Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. Hoping to further mirror the social networking behemoth’s rise and rise, the Kondoot pair is now eyeballing a 2015 stock market launch.
Kondoot means more profits for broadcasters
The result of 18 months’ development, Kondoot enables celebrities, musicians, athletes, authors, and businesses to publish live and recorded broadcasts as well video chat and instant messaging.
Viewers pay a small fee, with most of the profits pocketed by the broadcasters.
Regular folk can also create and share videos with family and friends, or mark the content as an event and earn themselves some spare cash.
“We’ve been singularly obsessed with delivering on the vision of creating a friendly and easy-to-use live social video experience,” chief technology officer Hoad says.
“Our goal is to make it easy for consumers and professionals alike to embrace video and use it to stay in touch with friends and business associates around the world.”
Just three months after soft launching back in mid-2011, Kondoot reported having subscribers from 133 countries. Free iPhone and Android apps mean users can broadcast and view from almost anywhere in the world.
“Anyone and everyone can be using Kondoot,” Cracknell says.
“Kondoot has so many different applications around the world in different fields; we have not set out to target just one specific niche.
“We were inspired to create a platform that served many needs from a single source.
Kondoot’s goals for the future
Several whole months old, Kondoot now has its eye on global domination.
“We are seeking to expand and grow all around the world,” Cracknell says.
“Gaining more users and becoming the definitive social live video website. We will continue developing the platform, shaping it and refining it based on the feedback we receive from our users.”
And what advice would Kondoot give to likeminded entrepreneurs?
According to Cracknell: “Launching a business is never easy. My advice would be to know your product inside and out, exactly what makes it different, what makes it special and why it is superior to all the other competing offerings.”
“Have a compelling reason for someone to use or invest in your product. Plans always change, be adaptable and don’t miss an opportunity if it comes knocking.”
