What is the 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians.
Each year, we invite our readers to nominate young Australian entrepreneurs deserving of recognition for their outstanding entrepreneurial endeavours. More.
Jane Lu, NSW (b. 1986)
Name: Jane Lu
Age: 28 (born 1986)
Known for: Showpo
Jane Lu’s business, Showpo, uses social media to generate $1 million a month.
We could leave it at that, but we’ll expand on the matter a little bit.
Showpo is an online fashion retail store that targets women ages 16-28. The company mainly sells within Australia but it’s growing in the international marketplace.
The company, Jane told us, was born in social media. Now, it’s a rising Australian fashion powerhouse.
“I didn’t get into it for the fashion, though that’s an amazing perk. But it’s the marketing that I love!! Tweaking, testing and implementing new strategies to build the business is what really excites me about my business,” Jane told Anthill Online recently.
Jane started Showpo in 2010, out of her own pocket. The company positions itself as a fun-loving, forward-thinking social butterfly that loves life and the people in her life – a “natural show pony,” according to Jane.
But it’s not always been clear sailing for Jane and her company.
“We realised that we were going to have a IP issue with our former name (Ed. note: the name was “Show Pony”). There was a domestic trademark holder and numerous potential international issues.”
“However, through clever marketing and branding we managed to changeover to “Showpo” smoothly. The month we transitioned (September 2013) was our strongest selling month to that point,” she added.
As her business has steadily grown over the past four years, Jane has continued to up the entrepreneurial ante.
“I’m even more entrepreneurial now as I’ve learned so much in the last few years and developed more as a person and entrepreneur,” she told us.
And that makes Jane Lu one of Anthill’s 2014 30under30.
Anthill asks: Jane Lu, what’s your super power?
My super power is the ability to do minimal MINIMAL work and achieve maximum results! I guess you can say strong systems is my Batmobile, my amazing hardworking team are my Avengers…
