What is 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants, so we thought we would highlight some of the bright and innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30 by a wink. “Reduction before production” is James Stapledon’s sustainability mantra, and as an entrepreneur he’s managed to still be, well, pretty darn productive.
Lighting Matters, whose LED lights were among the first of their kind to hit the market, posted half a million in revenues after its first year and has refined its leading online presence since.
Stapledon has further partnered with other manufacturers to supply the most premium light bulbs on the market, growing volume for his company and resulting in lower prices.
Not to mention, he’s helping Australians cut back on their CO2 emissions by the tonnes.
“I’m not just doing it for money,” says Stapledon.
“I’m doing this because I believe I can deliver customers a better outcome than anyone else in the industry.”
Anthill asks: James Stapledon, what gives you entrepreneurial cred?
I’ve been told that I am the youngest and one of the most knowledgeable players in the LED lighting industry. Being such a new industry, I had to learn and build from the ground up as the knowledge wasn’t there to begin with so I created a backbone to grow my business.
